TRIAL REVIEW AND PROCEDURES

Kelli reviewed the recent Turmus trial, praising both advocates while emphasizing the need for more direct questions and better time management. He felt a trial of that scope should take approximately one to one and a half hours and acknowledged that he should have announced a time limit before recess.

Jessika explained that she had not received the slave’s torture testimony or confirmation that the torture had occurred. She acknowledged incorrectly attempting to use a personal interview with the slave as testimony. Aries stated that he had contacted Selia to arrange the torture and understood that Selia had witnessed it.

Kelli directed that the person requesting torture must follow up and obtain the resulting testimony. Jessika agreed that she should have attended or supplied the questions. Aries proposed a written procedure for requesting and conducting torture, which Kelli supported. Completed requests are to go to Kelli and the magistrate presiding over the trial. Later in the meeting, Jessika handed Kelli a request for the torture testimony of the slave Tayir.

NADIA AND EDWARD — TRIAL DELAY

Dexter stated that Nadia was his ward under signed papers sealed by Kati. He questioned the delays and Edward’s absence, requesting dismissal and a finding against Edward, with prejudice. He also reported that Nadia remained unable to leave the city under the Ubar’s direction.

Kelli stated that relevant new information required the trial to continue and explained that Edward was ill. He hoped to resume the trial by the coming weekend or early the following week; no firm date was set. Dexter said he had learned of Edward’s illness from Edward’s slave and relayed that information to the Ubara.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

CITIZEN CENSUS

Aries reported that a notice and census form had been distributed, with a few responses received. He suggested approaching each Free directly and considering a return deadline. No deadline was established.

Kelli explained that the census supports citizen identification. Completed forms may be placed in the scribal mailbox at the library or given to Sphere Proto for filing.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

THE TURMUS TIMES

Jessika presented the completed first issue of The Turmus Times. She reported that Selia required review by either herself or Kelli before publication and would distribute the newspaper through a group notice.

Kelli requested a day or two to review it. Jessika expressed concern about delaying publication and asked to give it to Selia if Kelli could not review it that evening. Kelli maintained his stated timeframe. No completed review or publication approval was recorded.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

BIG RIVER FESTIVAL

Kelli encouraged caste members to participate in the following week’s Big River Festival by helping with activities and attending events. He emphasized the importance of the caste being visible within the city.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

REPORTED INCIDENTS INVOLVING AMYR

Dexter reported that Amyr, dressed in black and wearing a hood, had attacked and bound tavern keeper Lyrus. According to Dexter, Marcus invalidated the incident during a moderator call because Amyr could not produce the requested notecard documenting his report to the Master Assassin.

In response to Dexter’s question, Kelli stated that a warrior witnessing an attack could intervene to protect Lyrus. He also stated that an assassin could face a murder charge if caught and agreed with the incident’s invalidation.

Jessika separately reported that Amyr had attacked a visiting Free Woman after accusing her of being a slave because her hair was loose. He reportedly subdued her and restrained her at the slave house. Jessika intervened and directed that she be checked for a brand and released if none was found. The woman was released after no brand was found and agreed to tie up her hair.

Kelli stated that the magistrates would need to keep a close eye on Amyr.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

SLAVES ASSISTING WITH SCRIBAL WORK

Aries asked about allowing slaves to attend their owners, carry messages, and assist in the office.

Kelli permitted appropriate assistance, especially by slaves who can read and write, but established these restrictions:

◈ Slaves must be excluded when sensitive matters are discussed.
◈ Slaves must not handle documents involving citizens’ identities, property ownership, or similar matters.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

FOLLOW-UP

◈ Jessika: Follow up with Selia regarding Tayir’s torture testimony; the written request was handed to Kelli during the meeting.
◈ Written procedure: Develop the proposed procedure for requesting and conducting torture; no author or deadline was assigned.
◈ Kelli: Arrange continuation of the Nadia–Edward trial and review The Turmus Times.
◈ Census: Continue collecting forms; direct contact and a return deadline remain under consideration.
◈ Magistrates: Monitor further conduct involving Amyr.
◈ Caste members: Participate in Big River Festival activities where possible.

Next meeting: October 27, 2026, at the same regular meeting time, 3:00 p.m. SLT.

[15:19] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): "Last week we had our first trial in a long time in Tuyrmus.  It went pretty well .  We need to try to get to the point with the questions by both advocates.  A trial such as that one should have only lasted about an hour to an hour and a half.  So we need to work on our timing other than that iwas ok.  Lady Jessika can you tell me one important scroll that was left out in the trial?"

[15:22] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): The incident report, sir? I thought that was turned in. Maybe an investigation report?

[15:23] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5)Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5) looks to Lady Jessika as I await her answer

[15:24] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): Oh ... yes. I did, indeed, and I inquired with Aries regarding that. I did not receive the results of her torture, or even the knowledge of if she was tortured.

As a result, I incorrectly read during the trial the results of a personal interview with the slave and incorrectly attempted to use that as testimony.

[15:26] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Let this be a learning experience for everyone.  If it is requested that a slave be tortured it is the responsibility of the one who asks for the torture to follw up and get the information required otherwise the slave was tortured for nothing and their testimony cannot be used in a trial.

[15:26] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "I contacted Lady Selia to set up the torture. It is my understanding that the torture was performed with Lady Selia as witness. Of course, Kelli. That makes sense."

[15:27] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts)Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts) looks at Aries. "I was not informed of that. I asked for the torture, then heard nothing back. I will contact Lady Selia. I have to admit, I wonder what the torturer asked the slave."

[15:28] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Again this is just for learning experience we are going over these things.  We all make mistakes and it is good to often reflect back and see what we could do better.  Like I have realized I should have told that there was a time limit on the trial before it would go into recess for another day.

Lady Jessika do you think maybe you should have been there also during the torture?

[15:29] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): Since I am the one who requested the torture, I feel I should have been there, or at least have been able to tell the torturer what to ask the slave.

[15:30] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "Maybe it would be good for us to have a written procedure for the request and execution of torture moving forward?"

[15:30] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): That is a great idea Aries

[15:30] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): I would be glad to write up an official request. Two whom should I give it?

[15:31] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): All in all both advocates did a great job trying to get their sides brought forth.

[15:32] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts)Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts) smiles softly at Kelli's praise.

[15:32] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): all such filled out requests should be given to myself and the presiding magistrate over the trial.

[15:33] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts)Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts) nods. "So to you in this case, sir Kelli. I'll do that right after this meeting."

[15:37] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "I agree with Kelli. On the whole our advocates did very well. There are always things to improve, of course, but you represented our caste well and with decorum.

[15:40] Dexter Winters (sytheking1): "Yes I like to say Nadia the fw in this trial is my ward . Papers on this were signed and were sealed by Lady kati .  I want to know why so many delays in this trial and if the defended Edward was given notice of the day and time it to resume cause he failed to show up without giving a reason and i like to motion it be dismissed as my ward is not p ermitted to leave the city per the ubar . I believe edward not caring to notify why he didnt show he be found guilty and end this . now with prejudice.

[15:42] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): I have indeed been given information on what has happened with Edward and I have been given information about your ward the trial will continue since the new information is relevant to the case.

[15:46] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): I hope to try to have the trial by this weeknd early or first part of next week (Edward is ill and cannot be here)

[15:47] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Any thing else Dexrter?

Dexter.

[15:47] Dexter Winters (sytheking1): " I like to add the information yyou may have heard was probably gathered by me as i did speak to his slave in another land who told me he has been ill. which i relayed to the ubara. "

[15:48] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Moving on as you know we are going through and doing a census of our citizens.  How is that coming along?

[15:50] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "I've sent out a notice to all turmusians with the form. We've received a few, I believe, I think we need to start going around to each free, though, and directly asking them to fill the paper work. Maybe we need a deadline to return it by, too."

[15:53] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): That may be something we will need to do.  The census helps us gather important information on our citizens that helps with identification purposes if the need arises.

Yes LAdy Jessika?

[15:57] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): A few quick things, sir. First of all, here is the request for the torture testimony of the slave Tayir. *passes the scroll to Kelli* "Secondly, here is a copy of the recently completed first issue of The Turmus Times. Lady Selia has requested that either you or she look it over before it is published. Lady Selia said she would be glad to do so if you don't have the time. The newspaper is ready to be published, and Lady Selia has told me she will send it out in a group notice." *pauses to hand you the newspaper* "Thirdly, are the census forms put in the scribal mailbox at the library?"

[16:00] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): That or you may give them to Sphere Proto to file he is one of our archivists and record keepers

[16:02] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts)Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts) nods. "Sir, may I ask how soon you think before you can look over the newspaper? If  you are too busy, I can give it to Selia instead. I hate to hold up news for the illumination of the masses."

[16:03] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Next week begins our Big River Festival and I would like us to try to participate in the events as much as possible, whether it is to help with them or snjoy them for ourselves. It is important that people see us at events such as these.

[16:04] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): "Give me a day or two

[16:04] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): Kelli ... that's a long time. Please. If you can't do it tonight, I'd like to give it to Selia to review.

[16:05] Dexter Winters (sytheking1): @

[16:05] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Lady Jessika I stated when I will get to it.

[16:05] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): To be honest, I've never lived in a city where I had to have people review my newspaper before I release it. I feel like I'm being throttled a bit.

[16:08] Dexter Winters (sytheking1): off topic , yesterday amir dressed in black and a hood attacked the tavern keeper and bound him and in the mod call Marcus asked to see a nc on when he reported to the master assasin he was hunting. he did not have it so was called invalid. my question is if he attacked lyrus could a warrior have stepped in and protect him frombeing killed ?

[16:10] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): If he attacked Lyrus in front of a warrior the warrior could most definitely step in.  But most respect the mark.  However, if the BC is not marked and kills someone it is murder.

[16:10] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): It is murder either way if he gets caught

And I am aware of that business and it should have been declared invalid as it was

[16:12] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): @

[16:12] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "I have matter but it can wait until the end"

[16:16] Jessika Roberts (jessikaroberts): Amyr has been a busy man. Yesterday a free woman visiting the city stepped into the tavern and immediately left without lingering. Amyr confronted her and accused her of being a slave because her hair was not tied up. He started kicking her, she fought back with a whip, he downed her and brought her to the slave house, where he tied her to a branding cross. I came onto the scene. She claimed she went into the tavern by mistake and immediately left I ordered him to check her for a brand, and to release her if she did not have one. He was wearing skull make up that would make anybody afraid of him, so the lady was frightened for her life. Upon checking, she did not have a brand, so she was released, but she was ordered to tie her hair up, and she agreed to do such. *sighs* Amyr is a good man, but he's troublesome at times.

[16:17] Kati Evans: I know that to well

[16:18] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): We will need to keep a close eye on him then as magistratesThank you for bringing this to our attention Lady Jessika. Any more?

[16:20] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Yes Aries

[16:20] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "A number of us have slaves and naturally we want to keep our girls and boys busy, having them attend us at meetings, run notes, assist in the office. I just wanted to make sure that doing so was alright and what boundaries, if any, should be watched for."

[16:22] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): it is good to keep your slaves working and helping especially if they can read and write.  If we are speaking about important topics then they are not allowed in case the topics are sensitive.

[16:22] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "of course, discretion is important. My girl is able to read in write as she is former free. But there are also limits on the type of documents she can touch, right?"

[16:23] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): exactly nothing that involves citizen's identity or ownership of property and such

[16:24] Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3)Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3) "understood Kelli, thank you."

[16:24] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): Any more?is offline.

[16:25] Kelli Gяєyℳooη:-Rizzo (kellygr5): If not I will take the time to close the meeting and wish you all a great night we will be having our next week meeting at the same time next week."
